Short and full-length feature films as well as animation movies are to be seen this week in Cracow. It’s the 4th day of the  Etiuda and Anima Festival which ends this Friday. Its a quite crucial venue for young budding film students who would like to show their work for the first time to the public. Here in the previous years were shown movies of such directors as here Marcin Wrona - one of the currently most talented and already acknowledged Polish directors or Florian Gallenberger – who won the Oscar for his Quiero Ser (I want to be…) movie. Check out what is going on during the festival that dates back to 1994…  By Aleksandra Szczepaniak

Food can be sometimes of equal cultural value as the country’s greatest museums or monuments. Many guides on China have tried to tackle the problem of what to eat when you visit the country as a tourist. A good idea could be choosing an item from the list that was prepared after having conducted a poll on the most popular street food among children from Hong Kong. You can take the advice from the Chinese kids whether you are in China indeed or you want to check out a local Chinese bar in your town. By Aleksandra Szczepaniak

“Even such a symbolic sum of 50 zlotys saved up or invested monthly, but on a regular basis can pay off later.” – convinces Natalia Galińska, the editor in chief of the financial website Bankier.pl. If you are young, don’t think that there will be plenty of time for saving money. Think about it now. Paweł Kempa found out how to keep to the budget and take advantage of it even when we are short on money.

So it finally happened. The scientists fed fast food to rats. And it turned out that the more junk food the rats ate, the more they wanted to eat – a behavior very similar to that of rats addicted to heroin. The experiment shows that the brain chemistry of obesity and drug addiction may be quite similar. Listen to Viola Lamot.

Football in Wonderland. Sport Blog by Przemek Pozowski

Śląsk – 4, Odra – 0. Those are the games that the home crowd like the best… and, after more than a year, it finally happened again. The Lower Silesian team beat the Silesian one the same way Mike Tyson used to beat his opponents in boxing. All four goals were scored in the first half of the game, two of them came from the Śląsk midfielder, Sebastian Mila, whose daughter was born just 48 hours before the game started, who said, “I haven’t been eating much and I was so tired that I fell asleep with an un-opened bottle of beer on my bedside table that day, but when the game came, it gave me extra energy”. This energy was good, since Sebastian not only scored two goals, but also got two assists. “I dedicate those goals to my daughter, Michalina, and my fiancée, Ula”, said Mila to the journalists and promised he will play the video of this game to Michalina, when she’s older.

Here is the video showing highlights of another Śląsk Wrocław game from 2007, when they trashed Motor Lublin in Division 1 leading to a 10 – 1 score. This was the biggest Śląsk win I have ever seen…

So what’s going to happen now? …Another big game for the club! On Sunday in Gdynia, Śląsk plays against their biggest rivals – Arka. There are a lot of stories behind this and most of them pretty sad. First of all, because the hard core fans of both teams hate each other, there was a street fight in Wrocław in 2003, in which one of the Arka supporters was killed. The second connection with the Śląsk – Arka games is to do with the ongoing corruption scandal in Polish Football. It was Arka who paid the biggest bribe in the history of the Polish League to the referee to win the game. In fact they won 2-1 and kept their place in Division One. The amount of money that the referee took was over PLN400,000 (€100,000) and this all happened in the infamous 2003/2004 Season. A few years later both the club members and the referee were sentenced at Wrocław’s court.

But this was history and Sunday is another game… There are still some players in Śląsk team that remember the scandalous game from 2004, in which two of the Wrocław players were sent off, but an obvious penalty was not given to our team. Now, they just need to play the best they can… and hopefully win!

Eike Ihl

Studying medicine is hard enough to keep you busy most of the time. Studying medicine in English when you’re German in Poland sounds even more challenging. Apparently, not for Eike Ihl, who finds time and energy not only to chat with Jurek Chyb on our radio, but also to sing in the university choir and enjoy the city. Listen to the interview, in which Eike gives an honest opinion about the way Polish people see and treat foreigners in Wrocław. Also, a funny story of a cartoon tune bonding nations and a little comparison between Prague and Wrocław.

An unusual episode, that one. It isn’t very often that smells are discussed as an important element of the image of a city. Some people claim that Prague has lost its osmotic originality together with globalisation, but Jurek Chyb doesn’t agree. And he has some strong arguments to prove his point, the top one being the distinctive, dusty smell of the Prague Underground.

Atlantis photo credits NASA

It cost a hundred billion dollars and involved as many as 16 nations to build and make operational. However, for some reason, it only draws public attention when their toilets break down. The International Space Station has just been visited by US Space Shuttle Atlantis that landed there, the crew did some repairs, took the six experimental mice back (half of them dead) and – most importantly – gave engineer Nicole Stott a well-deserved ride home. She was the last astronaut to be taken aboard Atlantis, as the American administration has decided to retire its fleet of space shuttles. From now on, at least until 2015, if an American wants to go to space, he/she will have to ask the Russians, pay 50 million dollars a seat, and join them in one of the Soyuz capsules. Jurek Chyb has more about a possible replacement programme for the American shuttles.

The fifth group round of the most prestigious club football tournament is over. Not too many goals, but plenty of emotions. At this stage, it is usually the case that most questions concerning the qualifying teams are answered. Not this year, though. Listen to Jurek Chyb summing up the matches that brought even more confusion, what with a few clubs squandering their chances to assure a safe last round, and some others sighing with relief.

In fact, this saying may be true metaphorically, as far as judging people is concerned, but literally speaking, when we mean books, the cover may truly reveal the quality of its contents. Debs Fruscella

The Roll Over Beethoven squad has just had their brains dashed out by the performance of Debs Fruscella Duo – the guests of this year’s GITARA 2009 Festival. After a dazzling and somewhat extraordinary concert featuring a combination of classical guitar and  grand piano, Mateusz Ławniczak had an exceptional opportunity to exchange a few words with the leader of the band  – Antonio Fruscella. Both the interview and the music of Debs Fruscella Duo (extending from baroque contrapunctus of Johann Sebastian Bach to Spanish dances of Manuel de Falla) will be the part of this Thursday’s (November 26th) Roll Over Beethoven programme at 9:30 p.m.
