Michael Jackson – The Twitter Epitaphs

The King is dead, and the tweets are flown.

The King is dead, and the tweets are flown.

Today’s “Breaking Muse” is devoted to Michael Jackson – The Breaking Muse. Listen to us and keep in touch.
If Twitter was good for rallying Iran protesters, it sure is good enough for mourning the mysterious, the ephemeral, the King of Pop. Below is a short collection of our friends, colleagues, the people we admire – and just completely randomly stumbled upon – trying to squeeze their grief (or shock, or respect, or irritation…) in 140 characters. Some of the posts below are commentaries on what was going on in the streets of L.A. the moment the news broke out – others are simply emotional reactions to the news. Warning: some strong language and plenty of cheesiness follows.

creative_order MichaelJackson. Such a shock! RIP MJ you inspired so many fans and artists alike with your amazing contribution to music and pop culture.

  • pa3 oh… i didn’t know he was still alive and yet he’s dead. anyway he was my hero when i was a kid.
  • PuffChrissy God grants Farrah Fawcett’s wish to meet Michael Jackson.
  • michaelianblack When they do MJ’s autopsy, do you think they’ll find Tinkerbell inside?
  • attierees watching ever increasingly bizarre news coverage of MJ’s passing away
  • ginandjews :

  • So crazy! Boombox Michael Jackson dance party on my street. 20+ people, parents waking their kids up to dance to Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’
  • “Will You Be There” was my favourite song as a kid. Listening to it now, hard to ignore that the man was a fucking genius.
  • Not one to usually comment but Michael Jackson was truly inimitable. He had issues, but uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.
  • zoetica :

  • NOOO. Fuck. Michael Jackson, love of my life, dead.
  • On Hollywood boulevard… Every shop is playing MJ, and every mouth is saying his name. Aughh.
  • So baffled and strangely numb I don’t think I can actually bring myself to write an obituary post.
  • So it goes. Maybe later, mm? For now I have tea to drink + a drawing to work on + humans I know and love who are alive to be grateful for.

  • in all seriousness, can’t stop listening to ‘Beat It.’ oh, MJ, we’ll always have that summer.
  • neilhimself (Neil Gaiman):

    • People died: people die every day. It’s what they do. In truth, none of today’s deaths hurt me, although they upset friends.

I actually didn’t know anything about MJ’s death until the following morning, I started getting MJ jokes on my phone then seen online that he was trending, kinda started thinking that something was actually going on and it wasn’t just coincidence. He was a talented musician but a man of questionable integrity.

You guys could make better use of Twitter to get the word out about the station, try following people, list your self on wefollow under Radio, Wroclaw and Poland, check your @replies etc oh and hash tag your tweets if you have characters left. You could try something like TweetDeck to manage all this as I’ve noticed you guys just use the main Twitter site.

      Keep up the good work!
