Mourning show
Despair, sorrow and utter sadness is what most of us feel after the death of one of our nearest and dearest. Lamentations and mournings over a dead body have always been a paradoxically “live” motif of many cultures. This year during the Brave Festival The Irkutsk Ensemble Authentic Music group is presenting many pieces of Siberian lamentations which they have included in their repertoire after many years of travelling across Russia and listening to the most sorrowful pieces sang at traditional folk funerals. We checked out how the audience of the Brave Festival 2009 took in this awkward form of performance and how the artists themselves prepare to such a spiritual quest.
