JuNou’s best
Every Saturday at 8 pm we’ll fill your body with positive, danceable and groovy tunes selected by the top Polish DJs connected with JuNoMi crew. Contemporary hits, evergreens, remixes and forgotten classics – all professionally mixed and delivered to make you start the Saturday’s adventure in the best possible way.
JuNouMi is a group of music freaks who decided to develop the vinyl culture in Poland. As a result of that they started to press their favourite tunes as series of compilations and mixes. Every recording they’ve released witnesses their weakness for both contemporary club music and traditional black genres: funk, hip-hop and soul. Having such knowledge and experience JuNouMi crew has been performing as DJ group, spreading old-school tunes all over Poland.
Mixes on RadioWroclove.com:
The Szczecin-based duo is acclaimed as one of the most interesting groups of the contemporary Polish electronic scene. It’s not by coincidence that Catz’n'Dogz released their debut album – “Stars Of ZOO” – for the American label (mothership). Their compositions consist of elements of house and funky juxtaposed with the trance techno beat. Catz’n'Dogz productions are often unconventional mixing genres and contrasting synthetic beats against the sound of live instruments. For all these reasons, their DJ set prepared for JuNouMi shows a lot of promise.
The concept of our twelfth set from JuNouMi is simply unique. As we all know, most DJ sets are a blend of techno, disco, funky, house, pop or even hip-hop, but, well, not in this case. Zambon , a Poznan-based DJ and member of Kukubara Soundsystem, has decided to prepare a set that is a mixture of kraut-rock music. At first, his idea was to search the German music archives and to use only tracks from the past. However, the outcome proved to be a bit too much, so, in the end, he decided to balance his set, making use of other songs influenced by this genre. Kosmische muzik, indeed!
Despite the fact that Beat Bandith used to be the JuNouMi Crew’s rival in DJ competitions, they make a highly welcome addition to this DJ set series. After presenting a mix from Simc!, JuNouMi employed another resident of the Sopot-based Paprika club – Deekeed. Living by the sea, this DJ is known for his fondness for the deep with his deep electro music. Hold a seashell up to your ear… Can you hear those beats? No? Well, you better tune in RadioWroclove.com!
The JuNouMi Crew’s selection seems to prove that Wrocław has a well-established club scene. After presenting a DJ set from Przaśnik, JuNouMi picked another one prepared by Slam Dunk. These two guys, previously responsible for the Indie Sounds Night project, combine dancey house music with heavy bass lines and sometimes even with sentimental journeys into euro dance. It’s the tenth JuNou’s Best on the air, so tune in and let’s celebrate!
With their ninth mix, JuNou’s Best makes a stylistic shift, as this set is mainly based on drum’n'bass pieces. The person behind this revolution is Reza, a cofounder of the Soul Initiation collective, DJ and music promoter. Apart from mixing tunes in the legendary Sfinks club, Reza is also has a show on Bassdrive radio. His mix for JuNouMi focuses on the deepest and most experimental drum’n'bass’ works. It’s more about atmosphere than pace breaking.
Zamali is the first foreign DJ to prepare a mix for JuNouMi crew. However, this is no coincidence, since the Belgian artist is a well-known performer of remixes and mash-ups. Some of his work has been released by world famous labels like Michigan, Aniligital and TimeWarp. Zamali’s style is basically a combination of oldschool soul and funky but, with this mix, you could also expect a pinch of house and break beat. An upbeat journey through sound, from Michael Jackson to Chase & Status.
Kixnare is one of the most respected hip-hop producers in the country. He’s best known for creating the beats for mainstream rappers (Grammatik, WFD) and underground artists (eg. the legendary EP of Smarki Smark). The producer is also a skillful DJ, an author of various remixes (“Class Of 90’s” being an excellent example) and a soul music enthusiast. His mix is a blend of black music, mostly from the last decade. All in all, this is a track full of positive, warming vibes delivered to you by JuNouMi and RadioWroclove.com.
Maceo is a meritorious music promoter and journalist, known also as a DJ and a member of Niewinni Czarodzieje (Innocent Sorcerers) electronic/jazz band. During his career he has been cooperating with famous electronic music composers (Dorfmeister, Dego, Ursula Rucker or Alex Barck) as well as with the legendary jazz musicians, including Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stańko. Maceo’s recording consists not only of his favorite Black music tunes but also includes a pinch of contemporary rock music. Definitely a very solid and up to date offer.
SIMC is represents unpedictable freaky music, pasting serveral varieties of highly-danceable tunes together. This dancefloor terrorist is a respected memeber of the Beat Bandits and Kill Your Popstar collectives. If you still think you’re courageous enough, you can meet him around the clubs of Sopot, where he currently resides, bringing in the sailors with his groovy sets. But if you’re not planning to go there, you could always tune RadioWroclove.com in on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Weekid is a Łódź-based DJ, best known for his weakness for glitch-hop – an experimental mixture of hip-hop and IDM. If you think that mixing Kid606 with Mr. Oizo is an impossibility, you better check the fourth JuNouMi set!
DJ WeeKid about the mix:
“Main inspiration for the mix was raging scene of new beats, glitch hop or however you like to call it. Also it was supposed to be heavy. So we have stars like Flying Lotus, Harmonic 313 or Dabrye. Suprisingly easily into the tracklist blend players from quite different genre, French butchers Mr. Oizo and SebastiAn. With two tracks appears one of my favorite producers of last months, Japan’s very own, merciless Riow Arai. The mix wouldn’t be complete without one of ma fav intrumental hip-hop tracks of all time – Sixtoo’s “Boxcuter Emporium pt. 2.” The Glitch Mob ends it with a banger that won’t let you sit still. If you sit while listening to it there’s nothing I can tell you.”
A musical and social project of a truly roistering nature that originated in Wrocław – the capital of Lower Silesia. Created at the junction point of common musical inspirations, as well as a passion for solving sonic jigsaw puzzles. In days of yore, you could listen to the melodies from Bonton and Enzak thanks to the friendly people at Artificial Bliss Recordings, Jon Kennedy Federation, Qulturapu or even Ninja Tune. As Przaśnik, the signed with Funky Mamas and Papas Recordings, while their old hits fill the vinyl records released by the JuNouMi crew. Przaśnik has a preference for organic sounds. Spontaneous sound and a classical choice of jazz instruments complemented by a touch of synthetics, broken drum patterns and a modern feeling. Their audio-video sets and live acts are predominantly boluses of dancefloor jazz, swinging funk, jump blues, retro swing, rushing etno and afrobeat, latino groove, top-notch, energetic breakbeat and golden-era hip-hop.
Piękni Chłopcy is one of the most refreshing duos on today’s club scene. Instead of fiddling with the latest bangers, these two guys decided topromote often forgotten, but still marvellous soul or funky pieces. Even if they sometimes smuggle a bit of contemporary tunes into their mixes, you’ll feel as if you were participating in a party in the good old 70’s. Fancy trying? Tune in at 8 pm!

MentalCut about the mix:
“While recording this podcast I was inspired by “Raptime” series by Druh Sławek. It’s an hour of less known American rap from 1994-97. Ain’t a classic DJ mix, I was more about presenting songs in their original form. Hope you gonna have fun!”.
